May 13, 2012Blue Star Brunch RideSunday, May 13th: Meet at the Tobin Park Trailhead on the Salado Creek Greenway (Ira Lee Rd & Austin Hwy). Parking is limited so early arrival is recommended! This is approx. a 30 mile ride mostly along the flat Salado Creek Greenway (exception being two 10% grade hills about 100yds long). We will ride the just completed section of the Salado Creek Greenway to Lions Park on the south side and then travel a couple of miles on quiet neighborhood streets to enjoy brunch at the Blue Star Brewery. After brunch we do a quiet Sunday morning eight mile ride back to the greenway at BAMC before returning to our starting point. Since brunch at Blue Star ends at 11AM we start the ride PROMPTLY at 7:30 AM. If the Greenway is flooded then we will meet at: Ray Ellison Blvd & Medina Base Rd https://www.therideconnection.com/?action=viewroute&id=87 The roads at Ray Ellison Blvd&Medina Base Rd will be smooth and rough. Flat and hilly too. This will be a 20 mile loop instead of 30 miles on the Greenway Get there early, as the ride leaves the parking lot @ 10:00 am. Park at the school. Saturday, May 12th: Rides begins at 8:00 a.m. We will meet at Rudy’s parking lot on hwy. 151 and Westover Hills blvd. This scenic and somewhat hilly 20 mile ride is a good way to get a good workout in a short period of time.. Sunday, May 6th: Ride starts at 9:00. Hill country friends have mapped out different routes that may be used for the Annual Fredericksburg Fall Foliage Frolic – a short 25 mile ride, http://ridewithgps.com/routes/930379; a medium 42 mile ride, http://ridewithgps.com/routes/930782; and a long 58 mile ride, http://ridewithgps.com/routes/931649. Saturday, May 5th: Ride starts at 7:30 am: This is a 55 mile ride. Meet at Bullis County Park on the east side of Blanco Road approximately 8 miles north of 1604. Turn right onto Old Blanco Road for the entrance to the park. This is a beautiful somewhat hilly ride to Kendelia via Edge Falls Road and returning via Spring Branch Road. Pace will be 10-14 mph depending on what part of the loop we are on. Ride leader will pause at turns and wait to make sure nobody gets lost. April 29, 2012Urban Breakfast RideSunday April 29th: Wheels Down Exactly at 8AM (no exceptions). This is a 24-mile stay together ride with the Wheelmen through Brackenridge Park, Olmos Park, downtown, Mission Reach, and other neighborhoods with a stop for breakfast (usually on St Mary’s) near the end of the ride. Meet in the parking lot under Hwy 281 at the corner of Pearl Pkwy and Ave. B (by the Pearl Brewery Complex). Ride will start from the LCRA parking lot in Kingsland, TX, a few miles away from Lake Buchanan. The physical address is 8347 RR 1431 West. We will ride to the Fall Creek Vineyards, in Tow,TX. This ride is approximately 30 miles with options for a shorter ride. For those interested, you can pre-order a lunch to eat at the vineyard. For lunch you have an option of a Turkey wrap or Chicken salad wrap. This comes with chips, a pickle and a cheesecake brownie. The lunch is $12/person a person. Please let Phyllis Terry know by April 23rd , if you plan on ordering lunch, how many and which selection you want. For those interested, you can also order a wine tasting when you arrive or purchase wine. For your evening entertainment, the Terry’s are hosting Bill’s 4th annual Birthday-Bluebonnet-Blues-BBQ-Bike-Bash at their lake house in Kingsland. Please RSVP to Phyllis Terry by April 23rd if you plan on attending the birthday party and include the number in your group. We will have dinner at 6:00 followed by live music by the great blues legend Seth Walker starting at 7pm. This will be a night to remember. Please bring lawn chairs and your drink of preference, but we will be providing the food. Directions to the ride: Take 281 North to Marble Falls. In Marble Falls, turn left on FM1431 and continue on to Kingsland, TX. The ride start will be on 1431, near the intersection with Highwy 29. Sunday, April 22nd: A lovely 34 mile ride in Fair Oaks Ranch on flat and slightly rolling hills. It is mostly back roads and residential except when we leave the shop and return. There is a restroom and ice available “only” at the start and finish (bring plenty of water). The ride will start at 8:00 am, at RSC Equipment Rental (29880 I-10 W, Boerne, TX 78006. – don’t use Google map because it will have you on the wrong side of the freeway) Directions: Go out I-10 West take exit 546, Fair Oaks Ranch/Tarpon Exit, go straight 1.5 miles (right before you get to the shop you will go down a big dip and when you come up it right there). If anyone wants to do just 15 miles they can ride up to High Eschelon and turn around. Riders will be provided with an excel spreadsheet with turn by turn directions. Below is the map: April 21, 2012Sammy’s 471 Ride from CastrovilleSaturday, April 21st: Ride starts at 9:00 a.m. from the Park and Ride lot across from Sammy’s Restaurant in Castroville. This is a mostly flat 33 mile ride to the Exxon station on FM 471 (Culebra) and back to Castroville, where we will have lunch at Sammy’s restaurant. This is a nice ride for beginners, with safe wide bike lanes for most of the ride. Stops will be at Rio Medina (a good place to turn around for those who want a shorter 12 mile ride) and the Exxon station. The Park and Ride is located at the intersection of Hwy 90 and FM 471 (Culebra Road). April 15, 2012Hardberger Park (West) RideSunday, April 15th: Meet at 9:00 a.m. in the parking lot just inside the park (8400 NW Military) for a 20+ mile ride through quiet residential areas to Eisenhower Park with return to Hardberger Park.
