As the sun has set on this year’s 4th Annual LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour, we can all stand tall and be proud of our efforts. The wonderful volunteers from the Hill Country Bicycle Touring Club outdid themselves this year, and we had an equal, and much welcomed, performance by our partners, the Cool Cats Cycling Club.

I could go on and on about the outstanding effort put forth by so many – certainly, all the wonderful volunteers from the Friends of LBJ National Historical Park. Special thanks go to George Culp, Treasurer of the Friends, with our countless emails and phone calls leading up to the ride. A great example of how Aggies and Longhorns can work for a common cause!

How about those enthusiastic volunteers from the Texas 4000 group! With energy like that, no wonder they can pedal from Austin to Anchorage!

I also have to say a personal “thanks” to Matt Wigglesworth for his tireless efforts in registration – both prior to and the day of the ride. Well done, Matt!

And, I want to say a special heartfelt “thanks” to Russ Whitlock and his dedicated staff. They made sure things went off smoothly. My Stetson’s off to you!

And lastly, but certainly not least, your ride Chair had a lump in his throat, and pride in his heart as the powerful voice of Yvonne Campos rang out over the assembled throng with those stirring words from the Star Spangled Banner. What a performance!

As ride Chair, it made me so proud to have people repeatedly walk up to me with congratulatory comments like “one of the best bike rides I have ever been on”; “I’ll be back next year, and I’ll bring some of my friends”; and, “I had a great time, it was so well organized”.

Thank you all so much!
