For more information, contact tour co-captain Ann Caldwell at robancald@yahoo.com.
I’m pleased with where the club is going. We are getting a few new members, but I would still like to step up the rapidity of how fast we get those new members. We are entering the ideal cycle time of the year for our area – not too cold and not too hot. Absolutely just right for getting out of some of those country roads with minimal traffic! Look for another attempt at the Comfort City Park start of a ride that gets us onto some of those roads.
For those of you who were not able to get up to the LBJ 100 – it was a resounding success, thanks to so many of you from the HCBTC! Debbie and Fred’s display of the Quilts of Honor was a very moving tribute to our soldiers from the Operation Comfort group who were riding that day, as well as several former soldiers from the audience. All received a quilt as a memento from the event. Well done, Debbie and Fred!

Saturday, January 19th: We will meet at 10:00 AM at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, which is home to many rare birds, including one of the rarest birds in North America; the whooping crane . We will meet in the parking lot in front of the visitor’s center for a16 mile ride on the paved road which circles the park. Camping is available at Goose Island State Park and at the Riverside RV Park in Tivoli on the Guadalupe River (about 15 miles from the wildlife refuge). There are also many motels in close-by Rockport and in other communities in the area which offer off-season rates. Kudos to Yvonne Campos for organizing this event!! Each fall the Hill Country Bicycle Touring Club sponsors a cycling event in Fredericksburg, called the Fredericksburg Fall Foliage Frolic. A portion of the proceeds of that event goes to providing bicycles to a school promoting perfect attendance as an incentive. Beacon Hill Elementary School was chosen as 75% of their student population is “at risk” and 93% are economically disadvantage. On January 27, HCBTC members, Yvonne, Mando, and Roy, along with Assistant Principal, Ms. Cardona presented the bikes to Josh and Adrianna achieving for the goal during the first semester.
